Mentoring

Mentoring at LIFE Male STEAM Academy

At LIFE Male STEAM Academy, mentoring is a core component of student support and development. Every scholar is paired with a dedicated staff mentor who provides consistent guidance, accountability, and encouragement throughout the school year.

In addition, select cohorts participate in community-based mentoring through our partnership with Amachi Pittsburgh, offering expanded support focused on relationship-building, character development, and leadership growth.

Through regular check-ins and intentional conversations, mentoring supports academic progress, social-emotional growth, and personal responsibility—ensuring every scholar is known, supported, and challenged to succeed.

Our Mentoring Model

Mentoring at LMSA is intentional and structured, focusing on:

  • Academic check-ins and goal setting

  • Social-emotional development and self-awareness

  • Strong relationships with peers and adults
  • Character formation and decision-making

  • Leadership development and accountability

  • College, career, and life readiness conversations

Mentors meet regularly with scholars to track progress, address challenges, and celebrate growth both inside and outside the classroom.

Outcomes & Impact

Mentoring equips scholars with the confidence, discipline, and accountability needed to grow as leaders. By surrounding students with consistent support and high expectations, mentoring helps ensure that scholars are prepared to lead with integrity and purpose.
