Our Purpose

At LIFE Male STEAM Academy, we are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and positively impacting students’ lives. The SMART® Student Health and Wellness Center plays a vital role in this mission by providing Active Access to Active Care—a proactive approach that identifies and addresses physical, social, emotional, and behavioral barriers to academic success.

Our Whole Child-Whole School 360° approach ensures the well-being of every student, as well as their families, teachers, and staff, fostering an environment where learning thrives.

Meet Our Clinical Team

Christopher Conti, MD – Licensed Medical Provider & Medical Director

Dr. Conti brings over two decades of experience in hospitals, emergency rooms, and community health clinics. He has served as Chief Medical Officer for a large Federally Qualified Health Center and as a Team Physician for the U.S. Soccer Federation. At LIFE Male STEAM Academy, he diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries, prescribes medications, and leads the SMART® Clinic’s clinical vision.

Colonel James M. Compliment, CRNP-BC – Licensed Medical Provider

With over 30 years of healthcare experience, including service at Johns Hopkins and the U.S. Army Reserves, Col. Compliment specializes in proactive health management. He ensures students, families, faculty, and staff receive timely medical attention and supports SMART®’s Whole Child-Whole School approach.

Van Lee, Jr., RN, BSN, MA – Registered Nurse & SMART Utilization and Engagement Manager

With over 32 years in healthcare, Van provides direct student care, supports the medical team, and leads engagement efforts to maximize student wellness. He ensures that every scholar undergoes preventive screenings and early interventions to promote health and academic success.

Access and Fees

SMART® services remain available and are billed to insurance.
No copay for students.
Flat Fee: $125 per semester (due October 1, 2024, and February 1, 2025), significantly lower than urgent care or emergency room costs.
This fee helps cover unreimbursed care and ensures unlimited, daily access to on-site healthcare, including lab services
LIFE Male STEAM Academy is the only school in Pennsylvania offering this level of care every school day.

Regardless of SMART® enrollment, state-mandated services remain free, including immunizations, growth screenings, physical and dental exams (for applicable grades), hearing screenings, and scoliosis screenings.

SMART® Consent Requirement

A completed consent form is required for students to receive SMART® services.

The LIFE Male STEAM Academy SMART® Health and Wellness Clinic provides comprehensive, on-site healthcare to support the physical and behavioral well-being of our scholars, families, faculty, and staff.

We strongly encourage participation to ensure immediate, high-quality, and academically driven health care every school day.
